Fitting Golf Clubs
Gender is the most important consideration when fitting golf clubs. Please adhere to the golf industry standard measurements for both sexes. Working from there, start taking a mental note of your physical deviation.
Your wrist-to-floor measurement is used to determine the right length of golf club. Your age, handicap if any, self-assessed skill level, estimated golf swing speed are all factored into the equation to get the perfect golf club fit.
Flex is the torsion “stiffness” of the golf club. Stiffer shafts are better for stronger hitting golfers. Common shaft flexes are Men's Regular, Stiff, Extra Stiff, Senior, and Ladies. Often associated with flex, is kick point. Less experienced golfers generally benefit from lower kick-point shafts, which help get the ball up in the air while better golfers tend to favor the high kickers.
Lie adjustment requires bending the hardened metal in which an iron is cast. We strongly advise you don’t undertake your lie adjustment online but in person. Once you have lie adjusted a club it is usually not a bad idea to re-adjust it later.
One thing you have to remember is that woods, hybrid clubs and putters can not be adjusted because you will screw up the hosel.
Loft adjustments are not recommended when custom fitting golf clubs. Bending the loft of an iron weakens the hardened metal and can lead to future metal fatigue (hopefully not mental fatigue for you). Rule of thumb: If the loft of your 5 iron is too strong, use a 6 iron. If you think it’s too weak, use the 4 iron.
